What is acupuncture?
It involves the insertion of very thin needles (about the width of a hair) into specific points in invisible pathways (meridians) throughout the body to balance your body's energy or qi (pronounced chee). By re-balancing your body's qi, we can help to reduce pain and other conditions caused by the imbalance. It is one of the practices used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Although, acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, it is only beginning to be understood how it works.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
The needles different from the ones used by medical doctors for injections. Those needles are much larger to accommodate the hole through the center of the needle. Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use needles which are smaller and do not contain the hole in the center. Many times people do not feel the needle being inserted into the points along the meridian. Some experience a mild burning sensation, which is short-lived with the needle insertion.
